Site Supervisor

Location: Deepdale Primary School, St. Stephens Road, Preston, PR1 6TD

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday (10:00am–6:00pm)

Salary: £14.00 per hour

Start Date: ASAP (current post holder leaves 21 March 2026)

Our Opportunity

We are seeking a reliable, flexible and proactive individual to join us as Site Supervisor at Deepdale Primary School.

This is a key role within the school, ensuring the site remains safe, secure, compliant and fully operational at all times. You will oversee the day-to-day running of the premises — from security and compliance checks to maintenance tasks and contractor liaison.

The ideal candidate will be practical, hands-on and confident working independently. You will be a strong problem solver, able to make decisions quickly and act on them effectively. Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, pupils, contractors and commercial users of the premises.

Reporting Structure

You will report directly to the School Site Manager and the School Business Manager on day-to-day operational matters.

In addition, you will receive ongoing support from a dedicated Area Manager from ICS Facility Services, providing professional guidance and oversight as part of the Site Supervisor role.

Working Pattern

* 40 hours per week
* 52-week contract (all year round)
* Includes holiday working and site cover as required
* Monday–Friday, 10:00am–6:00pm

Key Responsibilities

* Support the Cleaning Supervisor and cleaning team to maintain high standards across the site
* You will clean some areas hard flooring as and when needed using a scrubber dryer machine ( training provided ) also any other ad-hoc cleaning if required
* Lock and unlock the school premises and operate security alarm systems
* Conduct and record regular compliance checks, including play equipment, legionella monitoring, alarm systems, ladders and fire extinguishers
* Identify and report building, furniture or equipment defects and carry out appropriate minor remedial works
* Undertake general handyperson duties (non-qualified trade work), including minor repairs, fittings and small-scale improvements
* Liaise with contractors carrying out works on site
* Take gas and electricity meter readings as required
* Maintain safe and tidy external areas, including clearing leaves and moss, keeping drains clear, and carrying out gritting and snow clearance during severe weather
* Maintain planters and undertake light gardening duties when required
* Ensure toilet facilities are maintained in working order, addressing blockages and minor plumbing issues
* Set up and clear away furniture for school events and undertake general porterage duties as requested by the Site Manager / School Business Manager
* Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head Teacher, School Business Manager or Site Manager

Health & Safety

* Comply with Health & Safety at Work regulations
* Follow lone working procedures where required
* Adhere to COSHH and site safety guidance
* Identify hazards and report serious concerns immediately
* Some manual handling and lifting is required

Essential Criteria

* Experience using manual and power tools for repair and maintenance tasks
* Experience using cleaning equipment and chemicals (training provided where necessary)
* Willingness to complete online training as required
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work independently during school holidays
