Pure Search are delighted to be partnering with a client on their search for a Treasury Controller.
This is a key subject matter expert position supporting the Group CFO and Director of Group Finance across highly specialized and complex areas of treasury accounting and insurance strategy.
This role encompasses all aspects of treasury-related accounting, including management of the Treasury Management System (IT2), and, with input from external advisors, leads on the insurance strategy for the Group, owning and advising the Board on all insurance matters for the UK businesses to transfer operational risk and protect the Group’s balance sheet from catastrophic losses.
Responsibilities:
* Treasury Accounting Leadership: Own hedge accounting relationships, advise on hedge decisions, ensure compliance with IFRS 9, and maintain accuracy of all treasury accounting entries. Lead month-end close, covenant compliance, and reporting for £4bn debt facilities, €1.5bn bonds, and £500m investments.
* Systems & Controls: Design and maintain the accounting framework in the Treasury Management System (IT2), embed automation, and drive strategic system developments.
* Insurance Strategy: Develop and recommend insurance strategy for Board approval, manage broker relationships, oversee operational insurance matters, and negotiate service delivery and fees.
* Stakeholder Management: Act as the sole SME for treasury accounting, influencing senior stakeholders, auditors, and external advisors. Provide timely, insightful responses to CEO/CFO requests.
* Leadership & Governance: Manage one team member, oversee £3m annual insurance premiums, and maintain independence while driving strategic improvements.
Desired experience:
* Professional Accounting or Finance qualification with a strong technical accounting background (5+ years’ experience).
* Advanced knowledge of IFRS 9 and treasury-related accounting.
* Proven experience implementing and maintaining financial controls.
* Strong understanding of treasury, debt capital markets, financial instruments, and structures.
* Knowledge of the insurance market.
* Track record of resolving complex issues proactively and effectively.
* Ability to maintain independence while collaborating within a team.
* Skilled at influencing senior internal and external stakeholders and anticipating external impacts on performance.
* Strategic thinker with the ability to translate priorities into operational reality.
* Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and continuous improvement capability.
* Excellent communication, report writing, and organizational skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with banking packages and IT2 preferred.
