Job Description
The Environment Agency is fully committed to inclusivity and equal opportunities, offering flexible work arrangements for all vacancies. Join us in a diverse environment where every voice is heard and valued. The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, responsible for 24% of UK GHG emissions. We need to fully decarbonise by 2050 while doubling electricity production. Through effective regulation, we ensure energy sectors protect people and the environment from emissions, and mitigate and adapt to climate change impacts.
We are recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for someone with experience in or regulating the energy sector, including combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries. You will provide expert support and technical leadership, develop regulation strategy, commission external research, and work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and industry players. Incident response is also part of the role.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incidents.
Experience and Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures; actively encourage consideration of diversity issues.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience in regulating or working within processes with control measures for emissions to air.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies, and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
