Job Overview

Contract: Permanent
Type: Full-Time
Hours: 40 p/w
Pay: £16.11 per hr
Location: Sellafield - Seascale - Main Site

To act as a lead Operative in the coordination of day-to-day waste activities for the Cumbrian Collaboration Contract. As Chargehand you will ensure that waste materials are handled safely and efficiently, providing front-line guidance to Waste Operatives to meet recycling and landfill diversion targets.

Operational Coordination: Assist in planning and coordinating all incoming and outbound waste activities and materials.

Team Leadership: Provide daily direction and support to Waste Operatives across the contract to ensure seamless service delivery.

Waste Stream Management: Oversee the correct segregation and recovery of varying waste streams into appropriate containment.

Logistics Support: Organise and maintain daily waste movements and logistics within the waste compound.

Compliance: Ensure all operations comply with legal, regulatory, and site-specific requirements, including Sellafield Security and Traffic Management Plans.

Main Duties

1. Site Standards: Maintain high housekeeping standards across designated facilities, such as B. Communication: Relay essential site information and communications from management to the operative team. Equipment Oversight: Monitor work equipment to ensure it is fit for purpose, reporting any deficiencies or needs for LOLER testing and servicing. Incident Reporting: Proactively report and assist in the investigation of any accidents or near-misses to the H&S department. Continuous Improvement: Identify and suggest improvements to waste processes that benefit both the client and the company. Health & Safety: Follow all Group and company policies regarding health, safety, and the environment at all times. Comply with Mitie's information security procedures and proactively report any risks or suspected incidents. Report any training needs or systems failures to the Line Manager immediately. Safety Culture: Promote a "can-do" safe working culture and ensure all staff use PPE and equipment correctly.

What we are looking for

2. Experience: Essential knowledge of the Waste and Recycling sector, including experience with MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) operations. Skills: Strong organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead a team effectively. Attitude: A reliable, responsible, and customer-focused approach to work. Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills for relaying instructions and reporting. IT Literacy: Competent in basic IT packages, including Word and Excel. Initiative: Ability to work well under own initiative while remaining a committed team player.

Desirable Skills;

Valid driving license. LGV 7.5 tonne driver with certificates for five LGV CPC units and digital tacho graph. Qualified Forklift Truck Operator. Safety Health and Environmental Awareness SHEA Waste and Resource Management Qualification (or equivalent). Qualified in First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work.
