An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Tutor to become part of a specialised school near Cambridge. You will work closely with remarkable students, offering personalised one-to-one and small group support to help them flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with children with special needs and a genuine passion for making a positive contribution. A resilient, empathetic, and proactive approach is essential for this role.
The Role
As a key member of our team, your responsibilities will include:
* Individualised Tutoring: Providing tailored one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them access the curriculum and achieve the milestones set out in their individual learning goals. Your support will be crucial to their development.
* Curriculum Adaptation: Working with the class teacher to adapt learning materials and activities to meet the specific needs of each student, ensuring they remain engaged and challenged.
* Fostering Independence: Implementing strategies that build self-confidence and promote autonomy in students, empowering them to embrace new challenges and take pride in their progress.
* Student Well-being: Serving as a primary pastoral support figure, you will help manage classroom behaviour, encourage positive social interactions, and ensure the physical and emotional welfare of our students throughout the school day.
* Team Communication: Actively communicating with the class teacher and other staff members to share insights on student progress, challenges, and successes. Your observations will be vital for adjusting support strategies and lesson planning.
* Personal Care: Assisting with personal care needs as required, always upholding student dignity and privacy.
Requirements
To be successful in this position, you should have:
* Experience: Previous experience working with children, especially those with special educational needs, is highly desirable. This could be in a school, care, or voluntary setting.
* Safeguarding Knowledge: A solid understanding of safeguarding procedures and a firm commitment to protecting the welfare of all children is a mandatory requirement. The selected candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
* Specialised Knowledge (Beneficial): While not essential, any experience or training in areas such as Makaton, PECS, or positive behaviour management strategies would be a significant advantage. A basic understanding of different SEN conditions (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Dyslexia) is also beneficial.
