Job summary
Applications are invited for a Trust Grade Doctor in General Surgery (Foundation Year 2). The post will run up from 8th April 2026 to 4th August 2026.
The post is based at the Royal United Hospitals Foundation Trust, Bath, and is suitable for candidates who have at least completed their first year of Foundation Training and would like to build on their experience of Laparoscopic and Emergency General Surgery. The successful applicant will have dedicated protected time with a named QI mentor to undertake a Quality Improvement projects and some management activities. It is an ideal post for candidates who want to build upon their operative logbook and portfolio. The candidate will be supported to produce publications as well as gain experience in teaching juniors. The Fellow will have direct access to the nationally pioneering Emergency Surgery Ambulatory Care (ESAC) and theatre lists for one to one teaching.
ESAC in Bath has recently received excellent training reviews and now has a national profile. The successful applicant will be encouraged to support further developments in ambulatory care and support learning for other Trusts and the NHS as a whole. The department and the hospital provide a progressive and friendly atmosphere in which to work, and there is an active postgraduate teaching programme.
Main duties of the job
This post offers an excellent learning environment for those seeking to broaden their experience of General Surgery. The post offers the opportunity to attain competencies and improve portfolios prior to Core Surgical Training applications. The role supports a busy department delivering colorectal, upper GI and emergency surgical activity. This post will be 1:8 on call on the F2/CT rota.
