Main Purpose
The Asset Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that properties are appropriately utilised, remain safe, are well-maintained and financially sustainable. This involves maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, ensuring that all databases and information systems reflect the current status of each of our properties.
A key aspect of the role is to proactively monitor compliance, taking into account legal, statutory, contractual, and regulatory requirements and taking immediate action where risks are identified. The Asset Officer is responsible for producing and acting upon jeopardy reports to maintain statutory compliance.
Additionally, the role includes overseeing asset registers and making informed recommendations regarding investment, divestment and improvement that support the organisation’s wider strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
As our Asset Officer, you will take ownership of the property inspection regime, ensuring that all homes are regularly assessed, defects are recorded, and clear specifications for repairs are developed. You will liaise with contractors and third parties to guarantee timely completion of work, and where appropriate take decisive actions to safeguard residents. You will also ensure that our properties meet the Decent Homes Standard and address the individual Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
You will manage building projects from start to finish, including engaging with statutory bodies such as planning authorities, building control, and the Building Safety Regulator. Post-inspection of completed works will be part of your role, to ensure all quality requirements are consistently delivered.
In addition, you will maintain and oversee asset management data by keeping accurate records and effective use of systems. You will provide support and guidance to the compliance team while also building strong relationships across the organisation. Leading on asset-related queries, you will ensure resident safety and advise on new assets in regard to suitability and sustainability.
You will develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, partners, and external agencies, and contribute to other projects as required to ensure that all assets remain safe, well-maintained, and financially viable. Preparing schedules of condition and dilapidations will also form part of your responsibilities.
