Goodfish Group is the UK’s leading privately‑owned contract manufacturer of plastic and composite components. With four sites across the UK, we are seeking a Quality Engineer to join our St Asaph team. This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced, self‑motivated Engineer to help grow and develop our Quality Department.
Responsibilities
* Ensure first‑off parts meet drawings and specifications; record and pass off as appropriate.
* Complete certificates of conformity and submit to clients.
* Gather information and complete 8Ds, SCARs and other structured problem‑solving techniques, including root‑cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys) at the manager’s request.
* Suggest and implement appropriate countermeasures (e.g., Poka‑Yoke) to reduce PPM defect rate.
* Gather information, complete, and submit PPAPs (incl. APQPs, PFMEAs) as requested by Manager.
* Patrol the shop floor to ensure products and packs conform to customer requirements.
* Ensure packaging for shipping is correctly labelled and parts are packed per specifications.
* Conduct system audits as per the schedule matrix.
* Draft initial work instructions, adjust/improve them as needed, and train the operations team.
* Monitor correct use of work instructions on the shop floor.
* Manage and execute CMM report requests from customers/management as directed.
* Suggest and implement continuous improvement ideas from a quality perspective.
* Suggest and implement cost‑saving and scrap reduction ideas.
* Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with 5S protocols.
* Fully support production supervisors to maintain the department’s 5S.
* Liaise with the technical department on any process issues arising on shift.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in a similar role in the automotive or aerospace industry (not essential).
* Experience with ISO 9001 (IATF experience a big plus).
* Experience in plastic injection moulding desirable; training provided.
* Demonstrable Lean/Six Sigma experience an advantage.
* Ability to contribute to the PPAP process.
* Proficient with measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, and CMMs.
* HSE qualification desired (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely).
* Internal Auditor qualifications and experience advantageous.
* Attention to detail and strong problem‑solving mindset.
* Excellent communication at all levels, including with customers.
* Confidence to stand firm on critical quality issues to improve delivery of conforming products on time and in full (OTIF).
* Flexibility to visit customers, suppliers, and other plants as required.
Working Hours
42.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute unpaid break each day. A flexible approach to additional hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, is requested.
