Overview

A Vacancy at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. CYP IAPT

The Children and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (CYP IAPT) is a service transformation programme delivered by Health Education England (HEE) and partners that aims to improve existing children and young person’s Mental Health Services (CYP MHS) working in the community. CYP Wellbeing Practitioner training will benefit from being integrated fully within the Children and Adolescents Mental Health Service (CAMHS), community and linked to the CYP IAPT Collaborative, which brings a valuable organisational infrastructure.

Job Purpose

This is a training role within the Children and Young People\'s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (CYP IAPT). The post-holders will work within CYP MHS as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering, under supervision, high-quality; outcome–informed, focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate anxiety, low mood, and behavioural difficulties. The training and service experience will equip the post holders with the necessary knowledge, attitude and capabilities to operate effectively in an inclusive, value-driven service. The post holders will attend all university-based taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within the agreed national curriculum, and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.


About South London and Maudsley

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK and substance misuse services for people addicted to drugs and alcohol. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King\'s College London and are part of King\'s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. Our scope is built on three major foundations: care and treatment, science and research, and training. SLaM delivered more than 14,000 training experiences in 2014; providing an extensive range of learning opportunities for staff at all levels. Our working relationship with King\'s Health Partners allows those at the Trust to get involved in academic research.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Clinical Skills
o Assess and deliver, under supervision, outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
o Support children, young people and families in the self-management of presenting difficulties in partnership with them.
o Develop intervention plans and agreed outcomes with children, young people and families; enable informed choices about the intervention.
o Operate from an inclusive values base, recognising and respecting diversity.
o Provide adapted intervention to different service users.
o Undertake suitable referrals within agreed national and local protocols.
o Conduct clinical and risk assessments; maintain duty of care at all times.
o Adhere to service referral protocols; signpost unsuitable referrals as necessary.
o Escalate cases as needed through close case management and supervision, ensuring adherence to service delivery.
o Provide information and support for evidence-based psychological treatments, including guided self-help; may be face-to-face, telephone, or via other media.
o Adhere to an activity contract regarding contacts and sessions per week to improve timely access.
o Attend supervisions and meetings related to referrals or treatment as appropriate.
o Keep coherent records as per service protocols; use data to inform decision-making; complete data collection requirements.
o Assess and integrate transitions, education and employment factors into the therapeutic process.
o Work collaboratively with relevant others and with children, young people and communities to widen access; collaborate with external local services.


Training and Supervision

1. Attend and fulfil all requirements of the training element, including practical, academic and practice-based assessments; apply learning to practice.
2. Receive supervision from educational providers for coursework; prepare and present caseload information to supervisors on a scheduled basis to ensure safe practice and governance obligations.
3. Respond to supervision guidance and engage in personal development supervision to improve competencies and practice.


Professional

1. Maintain standards of practice according to the employer and relevant bodies; stay up-to-date with new recommendations and guidelines.
2. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
3. Set and review clear objectives with supervisors and senior colleagues as part of continuing professional development; participate in performance reviews.
4. Keep records updated for Continuous Professional Development and ensure personal development plans maintain up-to-date knowledge of latest models and developments.
5. Attend relevant conferences/workshops aligned with professional objectives.


General

1. Contribute to development of best practice within the service.
2. Maintain safeguarding knowledge and ensure up-to-date understanding of legislation and policies relating to children and young people\'s mental health.
3. Maintain data protection, confidentiality, and information security in line with policies; ensure information is accurate and secure.
4. Do not abuse your official position for personal gain; avoid conflicts of interest.
