Main duties of the job

Moorfields Eye Hospital is one of the oldest and largest ophthalmology providers in the UK, providing care across a network of over 20 sites across London and the southeast. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is technical, numerate and data-driven with strong communication skills. The post-holder will be working in the Digital Clinical Services Division, supporting application refinement, building pathways in digital platforms and project delivery by using data to support efficiencies, drive informed decisions and improve patient outcomes.

Main Responsibilities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Analytical Service & Insight and Data reporting

* Capture information from relevant stakeholders and transfer to intelligence.
* Configure reporting tools and dashboards to meet clinical and operational needs.
* Support audit and performance monitoring through accurate data capture and system reporting.
* Create, present and provide detailed interpretation and recommendations relating to analytical reports.
* Provide advice and guidance to senior staff and service managers based on the interpretation of analytical reports.
* Use a data-driven approach to make decisions, recommendations and navigate actions within the Single Point of Access.
* Support, and lead where appropriate, delivery of projects relevant to digital applications that enables services to track performance against agreed targets.
* Make key stakeholders aware of any issues with relevant datasets, for example highlighting data quality issues, explaining terminology and investigating irregularities.
* Analyse workflows and identify opportunities for digital process improvements to support service management.

IT and Planning

* Utilise general IT skills by leveraging technology and using digital systems to achieve suitable outcomes.
* Manage workflows on a digital system, update and input information into databases.
* The postholder will plan the integration of new systems and system updates. They will do this by carrying out end-to-end tests to ensure updates have passed quality assurance before being released into live environments. Version control will be documented, and general changes will be carefully documented for reference.
* Maintain, configure, and optimise clinical applications used within the Trust’s digital services.
* Work with suppliers and in-house developers to implement software upgrades, patches, and enhancements.
* Ensure all applications comply with NHS Digital, information governance, and data security standards.

Clinical Engagement

* Liaise with clinicians and operational staff to capture requirements, assess feasibility, and deliver effective digital solutions.
* Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and system validation.

Management And Training Responsibilities

* Responsible for junior staff within the Applications Team and will carry out 1-1s, annual leave management and sickness management. The postholder will ensure they are up to date with policies and follow the correct procedures when required.
* Develop and maintain training materials (user guides, e-learning modules, quick reference guides) for clinical applications.
* Deliver group and one-to-one training sessions to clinical and administrative staff on system use, workflows, and best practice.
* Support onboarding of new staff by providing induction training on relevant systems.
* Evaluate training effectiveness and update materials based on feedback, system updates, or workflow changes.
* Work with superusers and champions in clinical areas to embed system knowledge in day-to-day practice.
* Support change management, including user training and adoption strategies.

Failsafe Responsibilities

* Implement and monitor failsafe processes to ensure that critical clinical tasks or follow-ups are not missed within digital workflows.
* Regularly audit system outputs (e.g., referral queues, results workflows) to identify and address anomalies.
* Liaise with stakeholders to follow up omissions, errors and data inconsistencies.
* Develop and maintain regular reporting for both internal and external recipients, pursuing automation where appropriate
* Ensure managers and clinicians have the information they require to deliver high quality services for patients

Governance and Compliance

* Ensure adherence to Trust governance processes by using the appropriate documentation and monitoring change control, risk management, and data protection
* Participate in quality assurance activities and ensure compliance with the NHS Agenda for Change Knowledge and Skills Framework.
* Develop and document standard operating procedures for clinical applications.

Finance

* The post holder will review financial implications for new software development and discuss this with the relevant budget holders.
* Will review and forecast resource needs and budget for team, when required.

Policy And Standard Operating Procedures

* The post holder will draft and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relevant to their area of work to ensure standardised systems and methods are used to produce like-results and maintain quality.
* The post holder will align Standard Operating Procedures with Trust recommendations, Information Governance, and Information Security standards.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

* Degree in Data Science/Computer Science/Mathematics/Management information systems or equivalent level of experience
* Ability to learn new packages/databases as required

Desirable criteria

* IT Service Management qualification or equivalent experience (example: ITIL)
* Relevant management / leadership qualification or equivalent experience
* Delivery management qualification or equivalent experience (Agile, PRINCE2, etc)

Experience

Essential criteria

* Experience of being part of user/customer-centric teams and delivering on continuous service improvement initiatives
* Experience of solving complex problems for users through the use of technology, requiring analysis, interpretation, and comparison of a range of options
* Experience of supporting the transition of products from Delivery into Live Service - including planning complex transition activities (upgrades, etc)
* Day-to-day coordination of staff and work, including allocating work to junior staff in own area, and includes training, knowledge transfer and supervision

Desirable criteria

* Experience of management products / services in healthcare (NHS)
* Experience of working within a Service Management Framework (ITIL, etc) and expert working knowledge of key practices (incident, problem, change, service request, etc)

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

* Good technical knowledge - Ability to analyse and interpret complex data accurately, ensuring high data quality, confidentiality, and security.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
* Ability to meet deadline, work autonomously and delegate
* Deal with more complex issues on the end-to-end service provision – covering Service Management practices (incident, problem, change, service request, etc)

Desirable criteria

* Contribute and support the delivery of service improvement, re-design initiatives and training needs
