Job Summary
This new post offers up to 10 programme activities (PAs) per week to provide consultant input within the Medical Oncology Breast Disease Group. The appointed medical oncologist will work with the Breast Team to deliver a comprehensive clinical service for breast patients—including outpatient, inpatient and ambulatory care—providing Systemic Anti‑Cancer Therapy (SACT) and contributing to the Breast MDT.
Responsibilities
* Manage breast patients receiving standard care and clinical trials, including treatment decisions, ongoing care, board and ward rounds and acute oncology cover at Withington and Bolton (1.5 PAs per week).
* Participate in all relevant aspects of clinical governance, maintaining up‑to‑date protocols, guidelines and clinical audit under the supervision of other consultants.
* Contribute to current research projects and establish new research opportunities within the team.
* Revise and develop evidence‑based protocols for patients and carry out associated administrative duties.
* Maintain continuing professional development in line with recommendations of the Royal College and the General Medical Council.
* Teach medical students on oncology topics and support undergraduate teaching.
* Train junior doctors and other multidisciplinary team members in both inpatient and outpatient departments.
Person Specification
Attainments:
* MRCP(UK) or equivalent qualification.
* Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register via a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (proposed date within 6 months of interview) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration.
* Evidence of productive ethical research relevant to oncology.
Essential:
* Wide experience of Oncology, including Breast Cancer.
* Experience across all disease groups in Medical Oncology and clinical trials experience (including Good Clinical Practice accreditation).
* Experience in teaching undergraduates.
* Experience of clinical audit.
* Evidence of clinical leadership skills.
* Proven ability to lead a team.

Working Pattern (Typical Schedule)
AM (09:00‑12:30): General admin, acute oncology Bolton board round, SPA, Bolton MDT, OP clinic Bolton, patient queries admin, IP duties.
PM (13:00‑17:00): OP clinic (Bolton remote, Withington, Bolton), SPA, acute oncology/CUP clinic (1:12).
