Location
The ONS operates a flexible hybrid working model across the UK, with colleagues linked to one of our contractual locations working between office and remote throughout the week. The locations for this role are Newport, Titchfield (Fareham), Manchester, London.
All colleagues are required to work from their contractually allocated site for at least 40% of their working time. Currently, there is an exception for colleagues based at the Manchester office, with office attendance at 20%, expected to increase to 40% in 2025-26.
The induction process for the role will be conducted in person.

We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to join our Data Access Platform (DAP) team within the Corporate IT & Services Division. You will support a newly commissioned big data platform (Cloudera), establishing and embedding best practices. A passion for delivering excellent customer service and maintaining a secure system is essential.

The Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will manage third-party infrastructure services and develop architectural solutions throughout the service lifecycle.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the team in building, supporting, and maintaining the Cloudera Data Platform (versions 7.2.18 or 7.3.1) according to departmental policies.
* Collaborate with technical architects to translate designs into supportable live operations.
* Provide technical leadership to ensure coherence in the application of infrastructure technologies (Cloudera Data Platform and AWS).
* Work under the direction of the Grade 7 Senior IT Service Manager for DAP.
* Potentially be seconded as a SME for the Cloudera Data Platform.
* Contribute to team upskilling initiatives.

* IT Infrastructure - Expert: Lead design, implementation, and support of infrastructure solutions (Cloudera Data Platform on AWS).
