Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Neurosciences and Trauma Dietitian to join our friendly and enthusiastic Adult Dietetics Department at the Royal London Hospital. This position presents an excellent prospect for a highly organised and ambitious Dietitian to lead the dietetics service for Neurosciences and Trauma patients in one of London's four major trauma centres. This role provides specialist dietetic input for a variety of patients including those under neurology, neurotrauma, neurosurgery and rehabilitation services This will be an exciting opportunity to work autonomously to develop the dietetic service in these specialist areas. There will also be the opportunity to line manage junior staff members along with supporting student training and contributing to teaching and training for a variety of staff in the The successful candidate should be very motivated and hard-working with previous experience of managing a very busy caseload along with experience of leadership, management, MDT working and excellent communication skills. You will also have the opportunity to deputise for the Clinical Lead Dietitian as needed. You will be working under the 8a Clinical Lead Dietitian who will support you in your role. Main duties of the job • To provide expert dietetic knowledge and experience to provide an effective dietetic service to complex critical care patients requiring Nutritional Support. This includes enteral and parenteral support. • To provide specialist assessment, treatment and/or advice to in-patients • To work closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. • To actively contribute to the development of the acute dietetic service and the dietetic service on critical care. • To support and supervise dietetic staff • To support and provide training as required to the MDT Working for our organisation Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain's leading healthcare providers. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant postgraduate qualification Qualification in area of specialisation or evidence of experience in speciality area HCPC registered Desirable criteria Post graduate training in neurosciences and/or trauma Experience Essential criteria Extensive experience in the area of complex nutrition support (to include significant experience within the area of neurosciences and/or trauma) Experience in managing patients who do not have capacity to make decisions for themselves. Experience in taking part in project work that supports improvement in service or supports a change in practice Experience in developing a service and establishing/maintaining a dietetic presence within an MDT Experience of line management of staff including completing appraisals Desirable criteria Experience in working with other specialist Dietitians from other trusts to undertake service review/improvement Skills Essential criteria Able to interpret a variety of complex clinical information to make dietetic diagnosis in area of speciality Ability to implement dietetic care plan and provide highly specialised advice for neurosciences and trauma patients Able to undertake accurate anthropometric measurements eg. weights, heights, skinfold thickness to support the assessment of patients nutritional status Ability to use behavioural change/ motivational interviewing techniques to facilitate change Experience of delivering undergraduate student supervision and clinical education to postgraduate standard in area of stroke Ability to problem solve, analyse complex clinical problems and create practical solutions to provide best clinical care Excellent oral and written communication skills with people e.g via advocacy/interpreters Able to demonstrate and effectively utilise leadership skills Regularly undertakes R&D activity eg. Critical Appraisal, Audit and is confident in the audit process Ability to take own initiative and to be the lead for clinical speciality Visa Sponsorship Information This role is subject to UK immigration requirements.
