Job Summary

Join our dynamic OWLS team, specialising in the care of acutely unwell children with Haematology & Oncology conditions. In this role, you will triage, assess and deliver high‑quality, timely care to patients with complex and often rapidly changing needs, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

We are seeking an experienced, motivated Paediatric Nurse who is confident in clinical decision‑making and keen to develop within a specialist role. The ideal candidate will be proactive, compassionate, and committed to delivering excellent patient care. Why you should join our team. Leeds Children's Hospital is one of the largest Children’s Hospitals in the UK and is part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Based in one of the fastest growing and most vibrant cities in the UK, we provide secondary and tertiary care to children, young people and their families from Leeds, Yorkshire and the North of England.

The Children and Teenage Haematology and Oncology Service incorporate a Principal Treatment Centre for Children, and for Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer. We have a JACIE accredited Stem Cell Transplant Unit for Children and Young People, which forms part of the Yorkshire Bone Marrow Transplant programme. We care for Children and Young People with a range of non‑malignant haematological disorders; Leeds is a Comprehensive Care Centre for Haemophilia and a Specialist Centre for Haemoglobinopathy. Our service is active in research and service improvement and we are very committed to supporting and developing our large and diverse nursing team. The day unit forms part of a wider service alongside three in‑patient wards and radiotherapy.

What you will bring to the role

As a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist you will undertake and be responsible for the clinical management and coordination of high quality, safe care for patients who are acutely unwell with a Haematology or Oncology condition. You will be responsible for triaging the patients, both over the phone and when they attend the unit for assessment. You will follow up patients who have been assessed by the team within 24 hours. You will liaise regularly with other agencies in health, social care and education and work as part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team. You will support training, education and staff/service development across the unit. This is a particularly exciting time, where you will help the management team to implement new ways of working across the wards and improve patient safety and experience. The OWLS service is a team of nurses who cover 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
