NUPAS are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Doctors to join our clinical team. This is an excellent opportunity to increase your knowledge and skills in Abortion Care, Sexual Health and Contraception provision in the UK.

Complete pre‑treatment assessment of patients requesting an abortion and post‑treatment care inclusive of abortion in a fast‑paced environment.

The successful candidate will be providing telemedicine services.

This role is part‑time and will consist of one day 7.5 hours per week. However, there is also a requirement for the successful candidate to commit to working one Saturday per month. The week in which you work a Saturday will replace your weekday session for that week.

Hybrid working may be an option after successful completion of approximately four weeks face‑to‑face training which will be clinic‑based.

Main duties of the job

* Review patient medical history and check suitability for early medical abortion medication and contraception, including long‑acting reversible contraception (LARC).
* Provide assessment for post‑abortion problems.
* Contact patients by phone when additional medical information is needed, and assess if a patient is suitable for telemedicine.
* Document complication rates and potential risks associated with treatments in patient notes.
* Support nurses in the assessment of post‑treatment problems and complications, and prescribe appropriate treatment.
* Review post‑treatment patient notes following post‑treatment appointments in clinics throughout NUPAS.
* For patients below the age of 16, ensure the patient has sufficient understanding and ability to give valid informed consent.
* Complete regulatory documentation and prescriptions following pre‑treatment assessment and consent in the patients’ notes.
* Ascertain the grounds for the abortion and initiate appropriate referral measures when a patient may be at risk.
* Prescribe contraception if required when reviewing patient notes.
* Participate in and cooperate with NUPAS quality improvement projects, audit activities and clinical governance arrangements.
* Update knowledge and skills through CPD and effective annual appraisal and participate in revalidation process as per GMC regulations.

Person Specification – Experience

* Knowledge of clinical and legal aspects of abortion care in the UK.
* Clinical knowledge of contraception advice and provision including LARC.
* Experience of assessment of women with unplanned pregnancy, assessment of pregnancy gestation, identification of medical and other conditions which may affect treatment; good communication skills.

* Reproductive and Sexual Healthcare service experience.
* Ultrasound skills.
* Intrauterine coil and subdermal implant fitting is desirable but not essential.
* Counselling skills.


Person Specification – Qualifications

* Must be registered with GMC and have experience of Gynaecology at least in Foundations years.
* Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare.
* Member of a Royal College or Faculty.
* CoSRH or RCOG abortion skills modules (ACSM / ASM).


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£49.82 an hour
