🔹 About the Role
Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join the Access & Prevention Division within the People Directorate.
This role is essential in supporting children, adults, and older people with physical disabilities, promoting independence, safety, and improved quality of life through tailored assessments and interventions.
You will work within a supportive multidisciplinary environment while providing clinical leadership, undertaking specialist assessments, and contributing to service development across Dudley.
🔹 Key Responsibilities
Complete functional assessments for service users of all ages with physical disabilities, in both community and hospital settings.
Assess, recommend, and prescribe specialist equipment, aids to daily living, and minor / major home adaptations.
Manage complex paediatric cases, including specialist equipment and adaptation needs.
Make robust clinical decisions and record professional activity to a high standard.
Lead on the adaptations process, ensuring compliance with design and safety requirements.
Deliver training and coaching to staff across various grades and learning styles.
Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, maintaining positive professional relationships.
Challenge practice appropriately and sensitively when needed.
Supervise apprentices, students, and junior staff when required.
Promote the role of Occupational Therapy within the wider service.
🔹 Essential Skills & Experience
Experience working with children, adults, and older people with physical disabilities.
Strong understanding of health & social care legislation, safeguarding, health & safety, and risk management.
Knowledge of specialist equipment for complex cases.
Ability to conduct full home assessments, including access, mobility, and equipment suitability.
Experience recommending appropriate equipment, adaptations, and support packages.
Demonstrated ability to manage conflict, work under pressure, and prioritise workloads.
Commitment to reablement and promoting independence.
Ability to produce clear, accurate, and professional documentation.
IT proficiency (MS Office, emails, case recording systems).
Flexible and positive approach to change.
🔹 Qualifications & Compliance Requirements (Mandatory)
Degree / Diploma in Occupational Therapy
HCPC Registration
Evidence of CPD and ongoing professional development
Full UK Driving Licence & Business Use Insurance (or ability to travel efficiently across Dudley)
Enhanced DBS
Right to Work in the UK
5 Years of References / Full Work History
Physically able to carry equipment and undertake moving & handling activities
Ability to access all areas of service users’ homes for full assessments
