Head of Operations – Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Operations to join our established team at Tedd Engineering. The Head of Operations will be responsible for leading and overseeing all operations at the Chesterfield and Northern Ireland facility, covering production, procurement, quality assurance, health and safety, and team performance and productivity. As a senior leader, the Head of Operations works cross‑functionally to align production capacity with commercial demand, support long‑term business growth, and uphold the highest standards of operational execution and reporting. A key element of the role includes providing detailed monthly operational reporting to support executive‑level visibility and decision‑making.
Responsibilities
* Set and execute the operational strategy in alignment with business objectives and growth targets.
* Lead the operations structure across production, order fulfilment and QA, ensuring a unified and high‑performing approach.
* Translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans and metrics.
* Provide direct oversight and guidance to the Production Manager and Team Leaders.
* Ensure production is delivered safely, efficiently and to the required quality and safety standards.
* Support capacity planning and scheduling to align output with demand.
* Plan and organise weekly production schedules, adapting as needed to meet deadlines and operational demands.
* Collaborate with management teams across sites to ensure timely shipments and alignment with delivery schedules.
* Promote a shared responsibility approach for on‑time, on‑cost and in‑spec delivery.
* Act as the point of contact for escalated customer queries related to operational performance.
* Champion a safe working environment by ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations and best practices.
* Coordinate and facilitate targeted training sessions to address key skills and development needs.
* Lead and evaluate the performance of production teams, providing guidance and support to foster continuous improvement.
* Sponsor lean manufacturing initiatives, 5S standards and waste‑reduction projects.
* Evaluate and implement process automation or tooling upgrades where required.
* Engage actively in stock‑taking processes to ensure inventory accuracy and integrity.
* Lead and deliver month‑end operational reports in a timely and professional manner.
* Ensure operational reporting aligns with broader business reporting structures.
Background and Experience
* Third Level Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
* Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams in a fast‑paced manufacturing setting.
* Skilled in fostering respectful, inclusive, and productive working relationships across all levels.
* Practical experience applying lean manufacturing principles in a production environment.
* Proven ability to lead, develop, and empower high‑performing teams.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and purposes.
* Strong understanding of Health & Safety programmes, with the ability to implement and ensure compliance.
