The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for preparing, analysing, and reporting on geological samples from the mine and process plant to support production requirements. This role involves hands‑on sample preparation, XRF analysis and PhotonAssay analytical laboratory.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our growing operations team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a modern mining laboratory environment, supporting gold production through high‑quality sample preparation, analysis, and reporting.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, analysis, and reporting of geological and process plant samples to support operational and production requirements. The role offers hands‑on involvement across sample preparation, XRF analysis, and the operation of a cutting‑edge PhotonAssay analytical laboratory. The Laboratory Technician will play a key role in ensuring analytical accuracy, efficiency, and data integrity while contributing to the safe and effective operation of the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
* Receive, log, and track geological and metallurgical samples.
* Perform drying, crushing, splitting, and pulverising of geology and process plant samples following strict QA/QC protocols.
* Maintain sample integrity, prevent contamination, and follow chain‑of‑custody requirements.
* Analytical Testing
o Conduct routine analysis of samples using XRF instrumentation.
o Calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and repeatable results.
o Prepare standards, blanks, and duplicates according to analytical procedures.
o Record, validate and report analytical data within the data management systems.
* Quality, Safety & Housekeeping
o Follow all site safety procedures, including PPE requirements and hazard reporting.
o Maintain clean, organised working areas and ensure proper storage and handling of reagents and consumables.
o Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in safety, efficiency, and analytical performance.
* Support the Acrux Gold site team for ad‑hoc tasks as and when required.
Qualifications
* Work in a professional manner to best operational and health and safety practices.
* 1‑3 years’ experience in a laboratory, ideally with experience related to geochemistry, minerals or mining.
* Demonstrated experience with sample preparation (crushing and pulverising) and knowledge of QA/QC concepts.
* Hands‑on experience with XRF analysis, including instrument calibration and data validation.
* Strong attention to detail, numeracy skills, and ability to follow detailed procedures.
* Competency with computers, data entry systems, and common laboratory software.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
* Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently when required.
* Valid UK driving license, ideally with 4x4 experience.
* Confident in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
* Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to protective foot wear, high visibility clothing, gloves and eye, hearing and respiratory protection.
* Ability to pass pre‑employment screening including medical drug and alcohol screening and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
