Join to apply for the Pharmacy Technician role at Kent and Medway Mental Health NHS Trust.
Are you a dedicated, compassionate mental health professional committed to providing great care? Do you want the chance to help shape a new and genuinely innovative service for the women of Kent and Medway? We’re creating Kent and Medway’s first, and only, NHS Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for women, and are seeking a talented, qualified clinical pharmacy technician to help us deliver this vital service.
Please note that the start date for this post will be March 2026, to allow sufficient time for onboarding, induction, and training before the anticipated arrival of the first patient in April 2026.
This role would suit pharmacy technicians with previous mental health and hospital experience who are looking to consolidate their skills, as well as those with genuine interest in mental health from another sector. You will also have the opportunity to work across all the bedded wards in the Dartford locality.
Our Pharmacy Technicians are provided with opportunities for personal growth and development, including support to do accredited medicine management qualification and NHS leadership courses.
If this sounds like the opportunity you have been waiting for, come and join our diverse and compassionate team committed to delivering excellent care and support for service users and their loved ones.
All positions also benefit from a High Cost Area allowance.
Key responsibilities
* Completing medicines reconciliation on admission.
* Supporting safe and timely discharge through effective medicines management.
* Providing patient counselling to ensure understanding and adherence.
* Coordinating the supply of medicines in line with clinical needs.
* Ensuring patients receive evidence‑based pharmacological treatment, are involved in shared decision‑making, and are regularly monitored for therapeutic response and potential side effects.
* Attending multidisciplinary team meetings and offering expert advice and support on medication‑related issues.
* Contributing to audit, service development, and teaching initiatives.
Working as a pharmacy technician in our inpatient services, including a newly established female Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), is both highly rewarding and professionally fulfilling. We’re also honest about the challenges—it’s a demanding role that involves supporting individuals with severe and complex mental health conditions, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and PTSD. Providing care in a PICU setting can be emotionally challenging, but the impact is profound. You’ll play a key role in helping critically unwell women begin their journey back to the community, delivering the right care, in the right place, at the right time. You won’t do this alone—our skilled multidisciplinary team and experienced pharmacy colleagues will be there to support you every step of the way.
If you’re ready to make a meaningful difference in a role that blends clinical complexity with compassion, we’d love to hear from you.
We also offer ongoing professional development to help you adapt and progress your career, including bespoke training and a comprehensive induction program.
All jobs based at our Dartford unit come with a High Cost Area Supplement: 5 % of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,303 per year and a maximum payment of £2,198 per year. The salary listed is inclusive of the High‑Cost Area Allowance.
