Overview
The RAF Student Nurse entry program prepares you to become an RAF Registered Nurse, providing direct nursing care in a range of clinical settings. The program includes basic training, undergraduate professional training, and ongoing professional development.
Responsibilities
* Provide primary healthcare to service personnel and families.
* Deliver secondary healthcare services.
* Assist with aeromedical evacuation (transfer of patients by air).
Requirements at a glance
* GCSE grade C/4‑5 (or equivalent) in Maths, English and science subjects.
* 120 UCAS points from higher education (not including predicted grades).
* Age 17 to 47 (must attest before 48th birthday).
* Meet nationality and residency criteria as set out by the RAF.
* Commit to a minimum of 12 years of service.
* Meet health and fitness standards and pass a fitness test.
* Desirable: prior nursing or caring experience with reference.
Education & Training
After basic training, you will undertake undergraduate professional training as a Student Nurse (Adult) at Birmingham City University. The training programme includes:
1. Basic Recruit Training – 10 weeks at RAF Halton.
2. Specialist training – ongoing and assigned to your role.
3. Further development and CPD – ongoing after qualification.
4. Completion of a 3‑year BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing at BCU.
