Job Description
As the Transport Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of a fast-paced transport operation, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and best-in-class service delivery. You will lead a team of drivers and transport staff while playing a key role in shaping the future development of the department.Key Responsibilities:
3. Lead, coach, and develop the transport team to ensure high performance.
4. Oversee route planning, scheduling, and delivery efficiency across a multi-drop food distribution operation.
5. Ensure full compliance with all transport legislation, including Driver Hours, Working Time Directive, and O-Licence requirements.
6. Manage vehicle maintenance schedules and work closely with external service providers.
7. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service, reduce cost, and maximise fleet utilisation.
8. Maintain effective communication with warehouse, customer service, and commercial teams.
9. Produce operational reports and performance updates for senior leadership.
10. Manage budgets, KPIs, and ensure strong cost control across the department.
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate will bring strong transport leadership experience within a fast-moving environment-ideally FMCG, food service, or multi-drop distribution.You will have:
11. Proven background as a Transport Manager or similar role.
12. Strong understanding of UK transport legislation and compliance.
13. CPC Transport Manager qualification (essential).
14. Experience within food distribution or FMCG logistics (highly desirable).
15. Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
16. Previous experience managing in a unionised enviroment (highly desired).
17. A proactive and solutions-focused mindset.
