Job description
Mixed KS3 & KS4 - Age range: 11 - 16
Start Date: 1st September 2025 or as soon as possible
30.00 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (Term Time Only)
Monday to Friday 8.30 am - 3.00 pm
An exciting opportunity to work in a brand-new facility as an enthusiastic Food and Textiles Technician to assist classroom teachers and pupils within practical lessons. The applicant should have experience working in kitchen facilities, using ovens and other cooking equipment, with a good knowledge of food preparation and hygiene. The role also includes occasional classroom cover within the department for some lessons.
Essential personal qualities and expected roles:
* Practical skills are essential.
* Computer literate.
* Ability to work independently.
* Ability to work as part of a team of adults and with young people.
* Able to follow instructions.
* Good communication skills.
* Completing laundry duties daily.
* Preparing in advance for practical sessions in both textiles and food.
* Assist with photocopying and filing, as well as other general admin duties as required.
* Carrying out stock control and ordering.
* Responsible for routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, and maintenance of all food & textiles equipment, ensuring standards are met.
* Keep working areas neat, clean, tidy, and safe.
* Support classroom teachers and pupils during practical lessons in KS3 and KS4.
* Maintain industrial ovens and other equipment within the kitchen.
* Order and prepare ingredients/recipes.
* Textiles duties include threading sewing machines, cutting fabric, and operating the laser cutter (training provided).
* Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff is essential.
