CLOSING SOON

Ambition Wanted…

University is not the only route to a successful career in Accountancy. If you are interested in combining your passions with a career in Accountancy, earning while you learn and avoiding university debt, then applying for one of our high‑end Trainee Accountant apprenticeships might be the perfect next step for you.

We want highly motivated and ambitious people to join our growing accountancy firm with offices across the North of England and Scotland. We see our trainees as the future of our firm and offer a range of training options as your career progresses.

At Armstrong Watson LLP you will be welcomed with rewarding work and a supportive learning environment, enabling you to reach your full potential. We have been named 29th among the Top 100 Apprenticeship employers in the UK. Our training programme combines on‑the‑job learning with professional qualification studies, and you will work alongside current apprentices and experienced team members who will provide daily assistance, foster your growth and support your development.

You will be supported over a 3‑year period, gaining the AAT qualification, a globally recognised accounting qualification that establishes a solid foundation for a successful career. Within the Business Services Team you may prepare accounts, bookkeeping or VAT returns, giving you invaluable experience from industry experts. Successful completion of the full AAT qualification will put you in a prime position to apply for our graduate programmes, with exemptions from some exams that fast‑track you towards becoming a Chartered Accountant.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate strong communication skills, a can‑do attitude and a strong work ethic.

If you have a Degree, or if you are due to graduate in 2026, please direct your application to our Graduate Chartered Accountant or Chartered Tax Adviser positions.

How to Apply & Qualification Requirements

If you think that this is the right opportunity for you, scroll to the bottom of our advert and click Apply Now. You will be asked to complete our application form and upload an updated CV.

Please ensure that you clearly list subjects studied and grades achieved for all GCSEs on your CV, and provide confirmation of your achieved or predicted A Level results. All questions on the application form must be answered fully or your application may not be progressed.

* Achieved a minimum of 7 GCSEs at Grade 5 (C) or above (including Maths, English and at least one Science) or a minimum of 6 National Fives (including Maths, English and at least one Science) at Grade C or above.
* Achieved, or predicted to achieve, a minimum of 96 UCAS points obtained at A Level, Scottish Highers or BTEC Level 3 or above.
* Be at least 18 years of age or over by 31 August 2026.

Closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 29 March 2026.

Recruitment Process

After the closing date, we will shortlist applications based on the set criteria. Successful candidates will complete an online assessment to evaluate numerical, problem‑solving, personality and behavioural attributes. Those who progress will then be invited to attend an Assessment Centre, which includes a competency‑based interview, a paper exercise and a group task.

Sponsorship Visas – Please note that, before submitting an application for this role, we are not a registered employer and therefore cannot offer sponsorship.
