About the Role
A long‑standing and reputable law firm with offices across Lancashire is seeking an experienced and proactive Family Paralegal to join its expanding Family Law Department. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive and respected practice known for its high‑quality client service and expertise across a broad range of family law matters. The successful candidate will assist solicitors and fee earners with both private and publicly funded (Legal Aid) cases, providing hands‑on support across a varied and rewarding caseload.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide day‑to‑day paralegal and administrative support to solicitors in the Family Law team, managing a caseload under supervision.
* Assist with matters relating to divorce, child arrangements, domestic abuse, care proceedings, financial remedies, and Legal Aid cases.
* Draft and prepare court documents, statements and legal correspondence, ensuring accuracy and compliance with court rules and firm procedures.
* Prepare court bundles for hearings, ensuring all materials are properly indexed, paginated and filed in line with court timetables.
* Liaise professionally with clients, counsel, local authorities, social services and other third parties, ensuring effective and timely communication.
* Conduct legal research on relevant case law and procedural rules to support fee earners in case preparation and client advice.
* Assist with Legal Aid applications and ensure all supporting documentation and evidence meet funding criteria.
* Attend client meetings and conferences, taking detailed notes and ensuring follow‑up actions are recorded and completed promptly.
* Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date case‑management records, ensuring all files are compliant with GDPR, Legal Aid Agency and SRA standards.
* Provide empathetic and professional client care, particularly when dealing with sensitive or emotionally charged issues.
* Support the team with general administrative duties, including scanning, filing, post‑handling and document organisation.
About You
* Previous experience working as a Family Law Paralegal (Legal Aid experience desirable).
* A solid understanding of family law procedures including private and public law children matters, domestic abuse injunctions and divorce/financial proceedings.
* Confident in preparing legal documents, conducting research and managing cases with minimal supervision.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional and compassionate manner.
* Strong organisational and time‑management abilities, capable of handling multiple cases and meeting tight deadlines.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with case‑management systems.
* A team player with a proactive attitude and genuine interest in developing a career in family law.
