A well-established, family-run precision engineering company based in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced CNC Sliding Head Programmer/Setter/Operator to join their in-house manufacturing division. With significant investment in machinery, technology, and quality systems, this company delivers bespoke and volume fasteners across the UK and internationally.
The Role:
You’ll be responsible for programming, setting, and operating sliding head CNC lathes (Star, Citizen, or similar) to manufacture precision fasteners and turned components to tight tolerances.
Key responsibilities include:
Full programming using FANUC or similar control systems
Setting and proving out jobs on multi-axis sliding head lathes
Interpreting engineering drawings and following quality standards (ISO 9001)
Conducting first-off and in-process inspections using manual gauges and CMM
Working with materials such as stainless steel, brass, and exotic alloys (e.g. Inconel, Duplex)
Contributing to continuous improvement on process and tooling setups
About you:
To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be a hands-on engineer with a deep understanding of sliding head machining and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Essential skills & experience:
Proven experience on Star, Citizen, Hanwha, Tsugami, or similar machines
Ability to read and work from complex engineering drawings
Experience working to close tolerances in a quality-led environment
Confident in tooling selection and process optimisation
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a production environment
