Medical Engineer – Band 5
As a member of the Electronic and Bio-Medical Engineering team, you will maintain, calibrate, and test medical and patient‑connected equipment to ensure safe and effective operation.
Responsibilities
* Provide support for electrical, electronic, mechanical, and oxygen therapy equipment, including planned preventive maintenance, repair, and calibration.
* Conduct acceptance testing of a wide range of medical devices (life support, patient monitoring, patient therapy, diagnostic, ventilatory and anaesthetic equipment).
* Use specialised test equipment safely and reference appropriate protocols for each device type.
* Complete scheduled planned preventive maintenance and perform unscheduled repairs as required.
* Attend wards, departments, primary care trusts, and other organisations to perform maintenance and troubleshoot faults.
* Clarify maintenance issues and assess impact on clinical service delivery.
* Cooperate with departmental policies, propose procedural changes that affect other professions.
* Act on safety notices from MHRA, engineering updates, and liaise with healthcare professionals to ensure timely execution.
* Assist in investigating adverse incidents related to medical devices and report potential incidents.
Qualifications
* Minimum BSc in Electronic or Mechanical Engineering, or HND/C in Electronic or Mechanical Engineering plus at least 3 years postgraduate engineering experience.
* Postgraduate Bio‑Medical Engineering and physiological training.
Knowledge & Skills
* Attendance at manufacturer’s courses on medical equipment maintenance.
