Overview
Join to apply for the Biomedical Scientist Microbiology role at NHS in Wales. Based at University Hospital Llandough, the Wales Centre for Mycobacteria (WCM).
The successful candidate will be HCPC registered with relevant experience in diagnostic microbiology, and will contribute to diagnostic laboratory work for mycobacteria while supporting the Senior Biomedical Scientists and Lead Scientist in the WCM. The post involves weekday and weekend working and a 37.5 hour week within a 1:4 or 1:5 rota.
Responsibilities
* Undertake diagnostic laboratory work of patient samples for mycobacteria.
* Support the Senior Biomedical Scientists and Lead Scientist in the WCM.
* Participate in a rota including Saturday mornings; work pattern is AFC and EWTD compliant.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Biomedical Sciences Degree or equivalent acceptable for HCPC registration.
* Evidence of HCPC registration.
* Experience in a clinical laboratory.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* CPD registration and participation.
* MSc in Biomedical Sciences; FIBMS.
* Experience in a Containment Level 3 laboratory.
* Knowledge of operating procedures and techniques in diagnostic microbiology.
* Experience of molecular diagnostic tests.
Skills and Knowledge
* Good IT skills and understanding of IT use in the laboratory.
* Understanding of Quality Assurance systems.
* Understanding of Health and Safety responsibilities.
