Main duties of the job
This role is suitable for an experienced staff nurse seeking new growth and development opportunities or a current charge nurse/community nurse with Band 6 experience.
You will gain excellent experience and a solid foundation in assessment within a safe environment, working with a variety of mental health conditions. The role involves working within a mental health hospital with 2 acute wards, 1 PICU, 1 older adult ward, and 1 dementia ward. You will also collaborate closely with the crisis team to facilitate appropriate outcomes for service users entering the suite.
Your responsibilities include coordinating MHA assessments, liaising with Sussex Police, approved mental health practitioner teams, and local community mental health teams regarding Section 136 and Section 135 assessments. You will also deliver focused clinical interventions prior to assessments to reduce the use of the Mental Health Act and admissions.
Shifts follow a 12-hour pattern, with flexibility for day/night shifts and both full-time and part-time hours.

Job responsibilities
* Undertake assessments of individuals with complex mental health presentations, including those with higher risk levels. Collaborate with service users to develop care and recovery plans.
* Provide specialist nursing assessments and advice as needed.
* Assess and manage ongoing risks, collaborating with service users and carers, and review risk factors regularly.
* Supervise junior staff and trainees where appropriate.
* Take charge of the clinical environment during shifts.
* Deliver brief, focused interventions to reduce the use of the Mental Health Act and admissions.
* Conduct clinical assessments, including risk assessments.
* Work in partnership with various statutory and non-statutory teams and agencies.
* Participate in the CPA process.
* Maintain an understanding of clinical governance.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered RMN with current registration.
* Registered Nurse (mental health / LD / Adult) with current registration.
* Completion of Mentorship course/ENB equivalent and experience as a sign-off mentor.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
Knowledge/Experience
* Significant post-qualifying experience relevant to the care group.
* Experience supervising staff and students.
* Experience working with individuals experiencing severe mental health issues, especially in their acute phase.
* Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
* Experience conducting clinical and risk assessments.
* Experience with partnership working across statutory and non-statutory agencies.
* Understanding of clinical governance.
