Clinical Technologist - Radiation Safety

Our dynamic and friendly Medical Physics team would like to invite you to apply for this permanent, full time Clinical Technologist (Band6) position based at Musgrove Park Hospital, Somerset FT. The post holder will either have a ionising radiation focus or a non-ionising radiation, this can be discussed at interview with two roles vacant. The post holderis a member of a team Clinical Scientists, Clinical Technologists and a Radiation Assurance Manager who provide the specialist clinical technical services of the department. The post holder contributes directly to these services, to test the quality and safety of a wide range of highly complex diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic equipment, this can include:

Diagnostic x-ray, CT, mammography and fluoroscopy equipment

Diagnostic ultrasound (US) equipment

Ultraviolet (UV) and non-coherent light-emitting equipment

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for planning, organising and performing (unsupervised) Quality Assurance surveys and producing first drafts of reports. This post will have a focus providing services within the non-ionising and ionising radiation section.

Provide scientific and administrative support to the work of the Medical Physics Department, in quality assurance of non-ionising and ionising radiation systems, but also in other areas as the need arises.

Participate in Research and Development projects under direction and supervision.

Assist in regular audit and quality system activities conducted by Medical Physics for non-ionising and ionising radiation services.

Support research and development activities including clinical trials, as agreed with the Lead Clinical Scientist.

Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings.

Job responsibilities

The post holder supports the provision of specialist clinical technical services to service users of the Medical Physics department. The key duties performed by the post-holder are detailed in the attached job description.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Honours (first or second class) degree in Physics, or equivalent
* Relevant Higher Degree (e.g. MSc. in Medical Physics)
* Associate member of IPEM or other relevant professional bodies.
* Registered Clinical Technologist


Experience

* Experience in Clinical Technology, Medical Physics or Radiation Protection
* Experience in the use of non-standard software packages
* Experience of quality assurance procedures in Medical Physics
