Lead Biomedical Scientist Biochemistry (Deputy Lead Blood Sciences)
We are looking to recruit an experienced Lead Biomedical Scientist (Clinical Biochemistry) with extensive knowledge, qualification and experience in all areas of Clinical Biochemistry to join our Blood Sciences management team. You will work closely with the Blood Sciences Lead, Lead Biomedical Scientist (Haematology) and Head of Transfusion in providing operational day‑to‑day leadership and ensuring the Blood Sciences project progresses towards its goals.
You will need to demonstrate extensive management experience at Lead Biomedical Scientist level. A proven record of change management, including implementation of Laboratory IT systems and major analyser platforms, would be an advantage to lead the department through a period of significant change. You will also be experienced in HR, financial management, quality management and service improvement at Lead Biomedical Scientist level.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a forward‑thinking and inspirational leader. You will be responsible for day‑to‑day management of Blood Sciences (Clinical Biochemistry) at ESHT across our two sites – Eastbourne District General Hospital and Conquest Hospital. Although based at Eastbourne DGH, you will be required to spend approximately equal time on each site, variable dependent on service need at any time.
You will coordinate a team of Senior Biomedical Scientists who in turn provide support in areas such as training, quality management, EQA/IQC and oversight of day‑to‑day services. You will be part of, and have the support of, the Pathology management team as well as wider ESHT support teams with whom you will form vital professional relationships. You will need to possess exceptional organisation skills, the ability to manage change and demonstrate attitudes and behaviours that foster a culture of working together. Excellent people management skills and experience are essential for the role.
As part of the Blood Sciences management team, you will, at times, deputise for the Blood Sciences Lead alongside the Head of Transfusion and Lead Biomedical Scientist (Biochemistry).
If you are keen to lead and shape the future of the Blood Sciences service at ESHT, we would like to hear from you.
