Job Description Salary: £37,280 - £39,152 per annum Hours per week: 37 hours Interview date: Tuesday 23 June 2026 We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Community Coordinator to join our Community Connecting/Intensive Travel Training team. We are looking for a dynamic line manager with a proven track record to lead and develop our Intensive Travel Training offer. Your role will focus on developing and line managing the Post 16 travel training provision, this is bespoke, sustainable travel training to and from a young person's place of education. This will involve working with young people with disabilities, parents, and support networks, liaising with schools, colleges, Wiltshire Council's passenger transport team, SEND transport team and other professionals to ensure seamless support is provided. This will also involve developing future pathways on engagement and identifying cohorts of young people to progress their independent travel in line with Wiltshire Councils SEND Transport Policy. The wider team focus on assisting young people and adults with disabilities to find out more about their local community and how they can access some of the following; voluntary work, socialising, meeting friends or joining a club, further education, including college courses and other training opportunities, using their community facilities to do things that they enjoy and travel training. We also work with local specialist schools, facilitating The Get Connected Project which supports road awareness and safety. This supports the pathway to employment. Responsibilities Working across Education and Skills, SEND & Inclusion services, and adult care, the team focus on transitions for young people with SEND and enabling greater independence and successful employment outcomes for disabled people. A key part of the role involves influencing wider stakeholders such as employers, volunteer sector, educators, parents, community groups and wider council teams to ensure improved outcomes for employability and independence. Specific duties and responsibilities include: Assist team manager on the development of funding bids to ensure better outcomes for young people and adults with SEND. Support manager in establishing effective services and provision to support young people preparing for adulthood to remain within their community and ensure smooth transition into adult services where appropriate, covering supported employment, apprenticeships, traineeships, internships, volunteering, and independent travel. In absence of team manager make complex decisions to ensure outcomes are achieved which serve the best needs of the customer and as a consequence can result in improved services. Use feedback, trends, local and national data and information to continuously improve services for the customers. Review the functionality of the offer in response to either internal or external drivers. Support the team manager to provide advice and guidance on complex issues which could be contentious and challenging in nature to the following: Local employers around employment law, Equality Act, discrimination in the workplace, disciplinary action. Parents and Carers around mental capacity, deprivation of liberty, managing risk, independent travel, their own mortality (what happens to their young people on their death) Disability understanding to community groups Delivering training of disability awareness to employers Changing perceptions of the wider communities Advocate for the Preparation for Adulthood agenda, giving advice and guidance to wider disability and SEND services about earlier intervention to support moving into employment, accessing the community and independence. Challenging families and support networks to get the best future for the young person Handle and resolve complaints. Support the development and delivery of presentations at Post 16 conferences and transition events. Working with parents and young people, especially during the transition from education where services are no longer available. Qualifications HND, higher diploma or degree in relevant profession, or equivalent experience/skills. May be part qualified in a higher level relevant professional qualification (i.e. approx. 2 years working in an Education, Care or Skills role). Level 3/4 in management or relevant experience. ITQ level 2 or equivalent experience with proficiency in using all relevant IT systems. In depth knowledge and demonstrable experience of employment / skills / economic and social inclusion issues - with up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes in relation to this agenda.
