Health and Safety Advisor - multi-site across the Midlands - National Grid projects (civil engineering and mechanical and electrical) - up £55k+car/benefits - well‑established major construction contractor with opportunity for progression into management within a multi-tiered Health and Safety team.
Key Responsibilities
Project H&S Support
* Provide support and guidance to project teams to ensure that health, safety, environmental and quality standards are adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.
* On construction or operational sites, offer direct HSE support, ensuring that safety protocols, environmental standards and quality practices are implemented effectively.
* Assist project teams in identifying and managing health, safety, environmental and quality risks specific to each project, ensuring project‑specific H&S procedures are followed.
Health and Safety Management
* Provide practical health and safety advice and guidance to employees, supervisors and project teams, ensuring adherence to safety policies and procedures.
* Conduct or assist in identifying and assessing health and safety risks on‑site or during operations; support the development and implementation of risk mitigation plans and control measures.
* Perform regular safety inspections and audits at job sites, offices and other work areas to ensure that safety measures are followed and that hazards are identified and corrected.
* Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions. Document findings, identify root causes and ensure corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.
* Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies. Ensure all personnel follow safe work practices and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
* Support the planning, coordination and delivery of health and safety training programmes. Provide training to staff on safe work practices, emergency response procedures and safe use of equipment.
* Ensure that company operations, projects and activities comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations and internal standards; assist in promoting environmentally sustainable practices within the organisation.
Compliance and Regulatory Support
* Ensure all operations comply with statutory requirements and company policies regarding health, safety, environmental protection and quality standards. Conduct periodic checks to ensure adherence to these policies.
* Support the coordination of regulatory inspections and audits and work with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental regulations.
* Ensure that all necessary documentation, such as safety records, environmental compliance forms, and quality assurance logs, is accurately maintained and updated in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Communication
* Assist in preparing regular reports on HSE performance for management. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety incidents, environmental compliance and quality assurance, and contribute to reporting findings.
* Participate in HSE meetings with project teams, providing input on health, safety, environmental and quality matters. Support the HSE Manager in driving HSE initiatives and improvements across projects.
* Promote awareness of HSE matters among employees through regular updates on health, safety, environmental and quality policies, fostering a proactive safety culture across the organisation.
