Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team. The role can be based from one of our company locations in Bristol, Chester or Manchester. To be considered, applicants will have an Engineering or Technical background with previous experience in a similar role.
The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for providing advice, reporting on, and controlling all commercial and financial aspects of projects and contracts. They will review enquiries, provide competitive estimates for mechanical projects involving structural, piping, and fabrication work, and serve as the key interface with various departments including Estimating, Project Management, Finance, Engineering, Construction, IT, and Commercial.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare analytical cost estimates and tenders from enquiry receipt to submission.
* Research item costs to ensure the best price and quality.
* Collaborate with team members to ensure external supplier and sub-contractor prices are accurate and competitive.
* Coordinate costs and compile tender documents and packages.
* Write tender documents and prepare tender packs.
* Organize responses to clarification requests post-bid.
* Develop customer presentations pre- and post-proposal.
* Ensure quotations reflect agreements with customers by liaising with management.
* Analyze drawings and specifications to prepare comprehensive build cost estimates.
* Participate in design development to assess buildability and cost efficiency.
* Manage contractual and commercial risks related to tenders.
* Establish relationships with contractors and vendors.
* Use Microsoft Project for project planning.
* Lead estimating reviews with Project Managers.
* Ensure all tender responses are consistent and compliant with branding.
* Maintain databases and utilize ERP systems for cost benchmarking.
Experience and Qualifications:
* Extensive experience in cost estimating for large-scale engineering or technical projects, ideally in the nuclear industry.
* Strong management skills and client relations.
* Proven track record of meeting targets and effective communication skills.
* Experience with technical writing, spreadsheets, and estimating tools.
* Knowledge of contractual terms, especially NEC contracts.
* Ability to manage commercial risks and develop relationships with stakeholders.
* Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural Engineering, Business Management, or similar technical field.
Skills:
* Proficiency in IT packages including Microsoft Office and bespoke estimating tools.
* Excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills.
* Self-motivated, proactive, and well-organized.
* Strong numeracy skills and a positive team attitude.
