Overview
Engineering Manager role for a global manufacturing business located near Welwyn Garden City. This is a days-only position (Mon-Fri).
Responsibilities
* Accountable for Engineering functions (Manufacturing, Liaison, Tooling, Projects) and direct reports, supporting day-to-day activities including appraisals, training and succession planning within the team.
* Assist the commercial team with new business requests and act as the technical lead for all operational capital investments. Support manufacturing operations to improve production processes targeting quality and efficiency savings.
* Lead the Engineering function to deliver products on time, within budget and at the required level of quality; manage change to drive improvements.
* Manage Manufacturing Engineering processes to control all aspects of component manufacturing including Tooling.
* Provide technical and engineering support for all aspects of the manufacturing process.
* Develop, implement and monitor Best Practice lean manufacturing processes to achieve business goals, promoting accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement across the business.
* Improve investigation and problem-solving (5Y, 8D, Fishbone, etc.) and follow-up of operational issues to prevent potential and recurring problems.
* Reduce the cost of non-conformance through continuous improvement and lean initiatives.
* Act as Principal Engineering point of contact for escalated Customer and Supplier engineering issues.
* Establish a comprehensive set of engineering data to control and improve performance in Quality, Cost and Delivery against targets and standards.
* Oversee and support all engineering activities including NPDI, process definition, tooling design and production support.
* Support the Bid/No Bid process to align new products with business capability and strategy by producing estimates, and technical and manufacturing proposals.
* Utilise effective project management tools to manage and report NPDI progress and other engineering projects.
* Ensure creation and maintenance of route cards, BOMs, technical documentation, PFMEAs, and inspection plans to support manufacturing activities.
* Lead the planning, justification and commissioning of new plant and equipment with appropriate Manufacturing Engineering resource.
* Own and review the technology road map for the site to stay current with technological advancements.
* Produce and update monthly KPIs and take actions to achieve or exceed targets.
Person Specification
* Proven leadership and engineering experience in an aerospace or high-precision manufacturing environment, or bespoke manufacturing with attention to process detail.
* Build good working relationships and act as a team player.
* Maintain high attention to detail and process adherence with a right-first-time mentality.
* Effective communication; reliable and dedicated; able to manage workload and stay organized.
