An exciting opportunity is available for a one-year fixed-term Band 6 Research Nurse role within the Infection Division at University College London Hospital (UCLH). The post holder will join a multidisciplinary team of UCLH and UCL staff, based in the Infection Clinical Research Hub (ICRH). The Research Department of Infection (RDI) is a leader in research and teaching on pathogen biology, immune regulation, and translational medicine.
Working with world-class experts, you will contribute to advancing infectious disease research—covering topics for example: TB, Influenza, and Tropical diseases. In this role, you will collaborate with clinicians and academics to manage both observational and interventional research projects, recruiting patients and healthy volunteers. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a variety of infectious diseases and work as part of a dynamic, innovative research team.
Main duties of the job
As a key member of the Infection Clinical Research Hub (ICRH) team, you will operate as an autonomous research nurse within a multidisciplinary group. Responsibilities include recruiting participants, obtaining consent, collecting samples, and managing study data. You will communicate efficiently with both internal colleagues and sponsoring organizations and develop specialized skills related to clinical trials, therapies, and relevant diseases. Supporting patients and volunteers to make informed choices is essential, with a focus on advocacy and clear information sharing. The role also involves reporting to the lead research nurse and Matron, collaborating closely with University College London (UCL), and obtaining an honorary UCL contract. Prior research experience is not required; enthusiasm for research and willingness to learn are valued. Excellent communication, organization, and patient-centred care skills are key for success in this role.
