Medication Safety Officer

The closing date is 20 July 2025

We are seeking to appoint a pharmacist or nurse to be the Medication Safety Officer for the Trust who will be an expert in medication safety and plan, manage and deliver medicines safety initiatives and improvements across the Trust centred around the patient. This will be a job-share with the current Medication Safety Officer Pharmacist.


Main duties of the job

Provide expert advice on medication safety to ensure that processes throughout the Trust are safe, effective and legal and are supported by up to date policies, procedures, protocols and training.

Application of systems thinking and thematic analysis to extract learning from medication incidents and develop corrective and preventative actions in line with PSIRF principles

To promote a culture of safety in relation to medicines

and to ensure that medication safety is at the forefront of clinical practice

* Support the Trust in its preparation for CQC inspections for matters pertaining to medicines safety

Job responsibilities

* To be a leader in medicines safety at a national level, researching, innovating andimplementing leading edge practice requiring the development of National levelexpertise and practice
* To provide assurance that all relevant medicines shortages and recalls are managed appropriately
* To attend Patient Safety Incident Review Group and other relevant safety groups
* To lead, organise, co-ordinate and deliver the F1 KSS Deanery prescribing assessment
* To produce medicines safety communications to the Trust


Person Specification

* Professional registration
* Experience of improving quality of healthcare services
* Experience of successful implementation of change management processes
* A good understanding of medication risk and factors to reduce the risk of medication errors
* Evidence of previous experience in provision of expertise to the clinical governance agenda


Qualifications

* NMC/GPHC


Skills and ED&I

* Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
* Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role).
