Role purpose

This role supports the team overseeing the commercial governance of contracts with key consultancies and contractors – a vital part of project success, maximising budget value and demonstrating value for money. You will help set up and manage pathfinder programmes that embed best practice and develop long-term collaborative partnerships that deliver for both the organisation and society.

You will be supported by the Commercial Assurance and Framework Management Team, which provides country-wide support to Integrated Delivery Management teams and wider Project Management, championing effective governance and commercial assurance to achieve best value for money.


What you will do

* Support a national team and local delivery hub leadership to ensure delivery of sustainable outcomes on delivery programmes.
* Participate in training and incident response duties as required. Incident response is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and supports communities and the environment. Further information is in your candidate pack.
* Work within the Commercial and Framework Management (CAFM) team, part of Portfolio Management, Assurance & Commercial (PMAC), to help create a better place and resilient communities through excellent commercial risk management.
* Develop strong internal and external relationships and become an expert on contractual and commercial interpretations within a high-performing team.


Experience / skills required

Essential education/skills/behaviours

* A-Level Qualifications, Level 3 Qualifications or equivalent.
* Skilled communicator with strong interpersonal/influencing skills.
* Stakeholder management experience.
* Strong data and document management skills.
* Commercial acumen – ability to understand and analyse business situations, take proportionate risks, make informed decisions and deliver value for money. Demonstrate curiosity and drive to achieve value for money.
* Administration skills – strong organisation skills, ability to write minutes and draft reports.
* Willingness to shadow, undertake long-term professional qualifications (such as NEC training, CIPS) and the confidence to ask questions to drive development.
* Interest in infrastructure, construction or environmental programmes.

Desirable education / professional requirements

* Degree or equivalent professional qualification or experience.
* Working towards status with a recognised professional body such as ICE, CIWEM, APM, CIPS, or RICS.
* Formal training in contract management (e.g., NEC, Contract Management Capability Programme).

Description
Presenting a case in a convincing and attractive way to win support for plans; often succeeding where logic and reason alone would fail.

Question: Describe balancing the needs of stakeholders with differing drivers to reach a successful outcome. How did you manage relationships? (STAR recommended).

3. Competence 3 — Data and Information Management

Collects, analyses, interprets, records, manages, develops and shares data and information appropriately for a variety of purposes. CVs or other documents attached to your application will not be assessed for selection.

Question: Describe a time you collected, validated, and managed complex commercial data from multiple sources and the processes used to ensure accuracy, security, and standards compliance. STAR recommended.
