We have a new and exciting position for a hands-on Building Services Technician, who will be responsible for undertaking the efficient and effective day-to-day execution of maintenance activities relating to the mechanical and electrical building services and assets at three STFC sites: Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), Chilbolton Observatory and Cosener's House.
The role reports to the Compliance Maintenance Manager and undertakes maintenance to safeguard the provision of resilient building services across the STFC estate and ensures that these services meet or exceed relevant industry standards and comply with STFC's SHE codes. The post holder will be responsible for the continuous development and execution of an ongoing proactive programme of maintenance regimes (planned preventative/reactive/condition-based), to be managed through a CAFM software package. The post also includes an active role in the installation of new/replacement building services and systems across the estate.
Responsibilities
The primary duties include:
* Carry out Legionella-related maintenance tasks, including system flushing, temperature tests, water sampling and storage vessel inspections.
* Assist in water quality auditing of potable and closed heating/cooling systems by rectifying Legionella risk assessment defects.
* Assist the Maintenance Compliance Supervisor and the Estates Helpdesk to maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance test records.
* Carry out works efficiently and effectively, acquiring and signing off work through the designated CAFM package.
* Occasionally undertake compliance testing and recording of emergency lighting systems and other light electrical compliance duties.
* Deliver a high level of customer service.
* Accept training in future developments and technologies as required.
Essential shortlisting criteria
* Sound knowledge of Document L8 and its practical application.
* Experience in maintenance of mechanical and electrical services.
* Knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation.
* Ability to work in a methodical and structured way.
* Confidence in dealing with suppliers and service users.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Conscientiousness and attention to detail.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision.
