Salary: Up to £34,000 per annum (dependent on experience) Contract: Permanent, full time

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Textiles & Production Skills Instructor to deliver high‑quality, practical vocational training to learners at HMP Millsike. You will lead a busy textiles workshop, supporting groups of learners in developing skills such as sewing, embroidery, garment repair, tailoring and other production techniques. Working within a secure environment, you will deliver structured sessions, promote positive work behaviours, and help learners build confidence, employability skills and industry‑relevant knowledge that supports rehabilitation and future employment opportunities. This role combines workshop delivery, learner supervision and operational responsibility for maintaining a safe, compliant and productive workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
Vocational Delivery & Learner Engagement
Deliver engaging, practical training in textiles and production skills including sewing, embroidery, mending and tailoring. - Develop learners' practical abilities, work discipline and professional behaviours. - Tailor activities to individual learner needs and ensure delivery aligns with vocational standards. - Motivate and support learners to increase engagement, performance and achievement. - Provide clear, constructive feedback to support skill development and progression. Workshop Management & Compliance
Supervise the daily running of the textiles workshop, ensuring a safe, structured and productive environment. - Set and monitor production targets, ensuring high‑quality outputs and timely completion. - Manage tools, equipment and materials safely, following all prison security procedures. - Conduct risk assessments and ensure full adherence to health & safety requirements. - Maintain accurate records of attendance, production output and learner progress. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with Work & Skills Coaches and prison staff to support individual learning plans and rehabilitation objectives. - Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of workshop delivery. - Participate in internal quality assurance, CPD and standardisation activities.
Essential Criteria
Experience in textile‑related work (e.g., sewing, embroidery, tailoring, repair work). - Ability to supervise, train and motivate individuals in a structured environment. - Strong understanding of health & safety in workshop or industrial settings. - Ability to follow and uphold strict security procedures. - Strong communication, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
Desirable Criteria
Experience coaching, training or mentoring individuals in workshop or vocational settings. - Understanding of restorative practices and rehabilitative approaches. - Experience working within custodial, industrial or educational environments.
