We have a unique opportunity for a Band 5 scrub role available in our operating theatres at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
The successful applicant will need to be an effective team player and communicator. You will need to be forward‑thinking to overcome any problems you may face daily.
Theatres have a strong commitment to teaching and education and you will be required to actively participate in the training of new learners and students. We can offer you an excellent mentorship and development program, plus access to ongoing professional education. Practitioners with adult theatre experience will have an excellent opportunity to learn paediatric skills.
Main duties of the job
You must be able to work flexibly as you will be expected to provide out‑of‑hours on‑call for the Liver surgical team, and possible long‑day and weekend working.

Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* BSc or Diploma in Nursing or Operating Department Practice or Equivalent
* NMC registration part 1, or HCPC registration
KNOWLEDGE & NATURE OF EXPERIENCE
* Experience of post‑registration operating department practice or current clinical nursing experience
* Evidence of supervising and assessing students
ANALYTICAL AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS
* Able to think quickly in a rapidly changing acute environment
* Able to use own professional judgement to raise concerns about patients’ condition and the level of care required
* Able to appropriately assess patient’s condition
PROFESSIONAL / MANAGERIAL / SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE
* Able to work well independently and as part of a team
* Able to plan and prioritise daily workload to ensure high‑quality and safe care for children and young people
* Able to engage with IT programmes that support patient care
* Able to work flexibly to meet service needs, covering 24 hours 7 days a week
* Participate in specialty on‑calls as required
