About the Company
Our client is a leading systems integrator delivering high-performance automation and control solutions to the food and beverage manufacturing industry. They specialise in end-to-end systems from concept and design through to installation and commissioning supporting some of the UKs most recognised brands. Due to continued growth and new project wins, theyre seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join their expanding Newcastle team.
Role Overview
As a Controls Engineer, youll be responsible for the design, programming, and commissioning of automation systems using Siemens TIA Portal. Youll work across the full project lifecycle, delivering reliable, efficient control solutions that improve production performance and meet stringent industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems using Siemens TIA Portal (S7, WinCC, Step 7).
* Produce functional design specifications, control system documentation, and electrical schematics.
* Lead and support on-site commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
* Collaborate closely with process, electrical, and mechanical teams to deliver integrated automation solutions.
* Interface with clients within the food and beverage sector to ensure project requirements and standards are achieved.
* Adhere to H&S, food safety, and electrical design regulations at all stages of the project.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a Controls Engineer / Automation Engineer within manufacturing or systems integration.
* Strong working knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal, including PLC and HMI configuration.
* Experience in food, beverage, or FMCG automation projects.
* Ability to produce clear control documentation and electrical design drawings.
* Excellent fault-finding, commissioning, and problem-solving skills.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for site work and commissioning.
Desirable
* Experience with other PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron).
* Understanding of motion control, vision systems, or process control.
* Experience working in hygienic or regulated manufacturing environments.
