3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• The Level 3 Social Worker will join the Isle of Wight Council’s Children’s Services team to provide high-quality social work practice, supporting children, young people and families through assessment, safeguarding and care planning.
• The role involves managing a varied and complex caseload, working within statutory frameworks, and collaborating with multi-agency partners to ensure the safety, wellbeing and long-term outcomes of children in need of support or protection.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Carry out statutory social work tasks including assessments, support plans, safeguarding interventions and reviews in line with legislation and local procedures.
• Manage a caseload of complex cases, ensuring timely, evidence-based decision-making.
• Undertake Section 17 and Section 47 assessments and contribute to child protection enquiries.
• Prepare high-quality reports for court, child protection conferences, statutory reviews and multi-agency meetings.
• Work collaboratively with families, carers, partner agencies and internal teams to deliver effective, child-focused interventions.
• Maintain accurate and detailed case records in accordance with professional standards, safeguarding requirements and audit expectations.
• Use professional judgement to identify risk, escalate concerns and develop safety plans where required.
• Participate in team meetings, supervision and reflective practice sessions.
• Promote the welfare, rights and voice of children and young people in all practice.
• Adhere to Council policies, statutory guidance, codes of conduct and the Social Work England professional standards.
Skills/Experience:
• Proven experience of working within Children’s Services, including safeguarding and statutory casework.
• Strong assessment, report-writing and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage a demanding and complex caseload effectively.
• Sound understanding of relevant legislation (Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together 2023, Care Planning Regulations, etc.).
• Confident working with multi-agency partners and delivering child-centred practice.
• Ability to engage and build relationships with children, families and professionals.
• High level of accuracy in case recording and documentation.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to use case management systems and digital platforms effectively.
Additional Information:
• The closing date: 27/11/2025.
• This is a temporary assignment for 12 weeks, working 37 hours per week, based at County Hall in Newport.
• Qualified social worker (Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).
• Registration with Social Work England (current and valid).
