Lead Quantity Surveyor
Bolton (Office‑based with occasional site/office travel)
We are recruiting for a well‑established multi‑utility contractor to manage the commercial delivery of multi‑utility infrastructure projects. The role is key to ensuring projects are delivered within budget, on programme, and in line with contractual and regulatory requirements.
About the Role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of the commercial performance of multiple projects, providing financial control, contractual management, and commercial insight to support successful project delivery. You will also mentor junior team members and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external clients.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and manage cost estimates, budgets and financial reports, including weekly and monthly project P&L
* Monitor project costs to ensure works are delivered on budget and on schedule
* Administer contracts, including negotiating variations, securing client approvals, and ensuring timely payment in collaboration with credit control
* Work closely with project teams, engineers and clients to ensure specifications, safety and quality standards are met
* Support design and estimating teams with supplier and subcontractor pricing for non‑standard works
* Conduct site visits to review progress, resolve commercial or contractual issues, and ensure compliance
* Analyse project performance against margin expectations and address discrepancies with operations teams
* Provide commercial risk analysis and advice to support informed business decisions
* Mentor and support Assistant and Trainee Quantity Surveyors
* Build and maintain strong client relationships
What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the utilities, infrastructure or construction sector
* Strong knowledge of UK construction and utility industry standards and regulations
* Good understanding of contract law, procurement procedures and financial management
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (intermediate level minimum)
* Excellent negotiation, analytical and communication skills
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
* Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
* Knowledge of utility infrastructure project delivery and associated challenges
* Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar
* Professional membership (e.g., RICS, CIOB) advantageous but not essential
* Full UK Driving Licence
