Paediatric Staff Nurse – Adolescents (Apollo 35 ward)
We have permanent full and part-time positions available for experienced and ambitious children’s or dual registered nurses.
Apollo 35 ward is an adolescent unit specifically designed for young people aged 11–16 with a variety of medical, mental health, oncological and surgical conditions. The ward includes 14 beds as well as activity and breakout rooms for teenagers.
Apollo 35 is one of only a few adolescent wards in the UK. Working here you will be exposed to a multitude of specialities, develop skills in surgical and orthopaedic nursing care, care for oncology patients, and learn to administer chemotherapy. You will also be supported to care for young people who need hospital care due to mental ill health and gain exposure to all medical specialities.
Our patients are a mix of long‑term and short‑term cases; some we get to know over many years and support them in their transition to adult services.
Nonni, the ward sister says, "working with young people in a bespoke, purpose‑built adolescent ward is a different type of nursing and one that is unbelievably rewarding. We are a fun supportive team who celebrate the specific nursing care that we give to young people in hospital."
Fun facts about Apollo:
* Working alongside music from the jukebox is fab
* We wear different uniforms to ensure we are young‑people friendly
* Our patients challenge us to do Tik Toks constantly
* Our ethos is that young people are a medical speciality in their own right and need tailored specific care that we deliver to meet their needs
There are also a multitude of educational opportunities available through the Faculty of Children’s Nurse Education.
