37.5 hours per week

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to support the Emergency Care Collaborative in the leadership and management of the Emergency Department at CIC with a specific focus on CQC recovery following recent inspection.


Main duties of the job

The role will provide leadership at team level and will support the Collaborative Lead nurse and Operational Managers. The post holder will have responsibility for:

* delivery of safe, quality emergency department services (safety, effectiveness and patient experience)
* quality performance of key trust wide care priorities and standards
* clinical nursing engagement, taking responsibility for clinical governance, safety and risk management within the service
* providing leadership, support and advice to the ED team
* contribute as appropriate to Collaborative strategy development and implementation
* supporting and deputising for the Senior Leadership Team

Person Specification – Qualifications

* Professional knowledge acquired through degree level study; supplemented by postgraduate diploma specialist training
* Substantive experience in a senior nursing position
* PP126/127 or equivalent teaching/assessing
* Evidence of CPD
* Leadership training
* Further specialist professional training to Masters equivalent level


Knowledge and Experience

* In-depth experience/clinical experience in a relevant specialty
* Thorough understanding of contemporary nursing issues
* Thorough understanding of PSIRF
* Successful track record of managing incidents and complaints and developing systems to support learning
* Ability to deal with complex strategic and operational interdependencies
* Relevant senior management experience and supporting executive directors in the delivery of organisational goals
* Sound practical understanding of leadership styles
* Knowledge and experience of Information Governance


Skills and Aptitudes

* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to form positive working relationships at all levels
* Ability to communicate effectively to external audiences and represent the Trust within the community
* Highly developed presentation and facilitation skills
* Well-developed collaboration and stakeholder building skills
* Skills in effective influencing/persuasion
* Ability to manage a complex personal workload and balance competing demand
* Flexibility – required to work outside core hours
* Ability to communicate complex issues relating to patients’ experiences to Board, Chief Executive and Divisional Directors
* Commitment to patient experience, public involvement and equality and diversity
* Determined and self‑motivated
* Tenacious – persistent in achieving results despite setbacks
* Able to work as part of a team
* Experience of coordinating a team and human resources management
* Evidence of change management experience in ward/department or clinical specialty
* Evidence of proven practice development and maintaining effective clinical governance strategy
* Knowledge and understanding of research and audit methodologies
* Evidence of innovation in practice
* Understanding of national political and professional agenda and ability to apply this to clinical areas
* Organisational and time management skills


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and a submission for Disclosure must be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. The cost of the DBS will be met by the successful candidate through salary deduction, as per standard or enhanced check rates.
