Position
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Charge Nurse based within Day Surgery at University Hospital Ayr. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
Hours
36 hours over 4 days per week. From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full‑time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part‑time staff) without loss of earnings.
What You Will Do
You will have responsibility for the assessment of care needs and evaluation of programmes of care ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients within the perioperative environment. In the absence of the Charge Nurse the post holder will have continuing responsibility for the management of the theatres, including supervision and deployment of staff.
We have 3 theatres and 2 diagnostic rooms at Day Surgery UHA undertaking a range of surgeries including ophthalmology, urology, plastics and vascular. We facilitate high volume planned surgery as well as emergency operating for ophthalmology. Operating is carried out Monday to Friday although additional weekend working is undertaken to meet the demands of waiting lists.
Knowledge, Training and Experience Required
You must be NMC or HCPC registered, have experience within different specialties and be able to deputise in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse.
