Overview
The School Mission Statement reflects our aims to champion and promote excellent medical, health and social care science, research, scholarship, teaching and learning, quality and values with people who use services, practitioners, and stakeholders. To promote language and cultural competence relevant to local, national and international partners, and to provide an inclusive culture and environment for staff and students within the School.

Across the University, research and teaching are closely inter-linked: almost all research academics teach, ensuring that our students benefit from the knowledge created by our research. In REF2021, 40% of our research is considered 4* or world-leading and 45% is 3* or internationally excellent. 77% of Bangor’s research was scored as 4* or 3* in the last REF in 2014. In REF2021 it has increased to 85%. In REF2021, Bangor is 41st for the proportion of our research environment judged to be world-leading and 46th (out of 129 - excluding six single-subject institutions) in the sector for research.
The School of Health Sciences is an interprofessional school which sits within the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and provides medical, health and care education and research at Bangor University. The School works in partnership with health, social and educational care providers through well-established links to enable a clinical and academic experience to be provided for children’s nursing students. The School offers a career-spanning portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and short courses for health and care and allied professionals. The School comprises over 120 staff, delivering to students from across allied health programmes. We hold an Athena Swan Bronze award in recognition of our commitment to and progress towards gender equality within the University's policies, practices, and culture.
The Project
This post is available on our teaching and scholarship career track. Here at the School of Health Sciences, we value the partnership we have with students and prioritise support and encouragement for all our students across their differing programmes. The School offers a supportive culture for our less experienced lecturers to develop their potential and you will be provided with an academic mentor. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to teaching and learning across the School’s portfolio, including in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Purpose of the Job
•To teach children’s nursing at undergraduate and postgraduate) levels, including supervision of students as they complete formative and summative assessments.
•To develop ways of teaching to include blended and in person approaches, teaching materials and assessment.
•To support module and course design, assessments and develop skills for module co-ordination and module leadership module coordinator.
•To provide the highest quality pastoral and academic support to children’s nursing undergraduate and postgraduate students.
•To undertake administrative duties as designated by the Head of School to engage in School citizenship and personal development.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
• Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.
• Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments in children’s nursing.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
• Be personal tutor to a number of undergraduate (and postgraduate students), providing the highest quality, consistent, advice, guidance and support.
• Contribute to the development of new programmes and undertaking role of module coordinator or contributing to module co-ordination.
• Maintain and develop Scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.
• Publish and share evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.
• Ensure adherence to organisational and professional body (i.e. NMC) requirements in all aspects of academic work, and in personal professional development.
• Engage in scholarly, professional and improvement-related activities around children's nursing and nursing education in partnership with students, local stakeholders and service users.
• Contribute to the growth and improvement of the practice learning circuit capacity and quality, and support students’ learning in practice.
• Actively engage in strategic and project-related activities that maximise student engagement, and that mitigate the risks of attrition.
• Lead the development of new modules, and the re-design and improvement of existing modules.
Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:
• Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g. School and University Open Days).
• To contribute to the promotion and external profile of the School.
• Contribute to the School's management and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures (if module co-ordinator).
• Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.
• Undertake an active role in mentoring less experienced members of staff within the College/School.
• Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting undergraduate and postgraduate student experience, contributing to community engagement).

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
Essential:
• Degree in a relevant subject area or equivalent.
• Professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the child field (RCN 8, RNC).
Desirable:
• PGCertHE teaching qualification or equivalent
Experience/Knowledge - Teaching
Essential:
• A sound knowledge of contemporary policy and practice in nursing and healthcare.
• Evidence of teaching in clinical or academic settings.
Desirable:
• Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.
• Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
Experience/Knowledge – Scholarship
Essential:
• Capability to develop and manage projects, and to disseminate results through presentation at relevant conferences, publication in relevant journals, social and other media.
Desirable:
• Capability to publish scholarship in peer-reviewed journals of international standard, conferences, social and other media.
Skills/Abilities
Essential:
• Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Demonstrable computer skills, including MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel. This could also include use of Blackboard and other on-line learning platforms.
