The role
As a Electrical Controls - Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a tangible impact—on national security, on engineering excellence, and on your own professional growth.
Day-to-day, you’ll be at the forefront of designing and configuring mechanical handling systems that support some of the UK’s most critical defence infrastructure. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and innovation of lifting equipment and crane systems across our site.
* Deliver design and technical authority responsibilities for mechanical handling systems and equipment.
* Lead multidisciplinary projects across the full design lifecycle—from concept through to implementation.
* Produce engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and commissioning documentation.
* Manage technical queries and design deviations to maintain design intent.
* Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and innovation.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with an expectation of 3 days in the office/onsite.
Essential experience of the Electrical Controls - Mechanical Engineer
* Demonstrated experience in the design and substantiation of mechanical systems and components.
* Strong understanding of engineering regulations, legislation, and standards.
* Proficiency in hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA).
* Ability to interpret and produce mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
* Familiarity with crane systems, lifting equipment, and mechanical handling safety.
Qualifications for the Electrical Controls - Mechanical Engineer
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering is essential.
* Professional membership (e.g., IMechE) - Desirable

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
