Overview
Materials Analysis is an Oxford Instruments Business Unit that manages our Electron Microscopy and Mechanical Microscopy products Atomic Force Microscopes Raman Microscopes and Benchtop NMR Products. We are part of the wider Oxford Instruments Group that also includes Andor Technology NanoScience Plasma Technology and X-Ray Technology. With a sixty-year history and fourteen Queens Awards for Enterprise our world-class products and technologies are helping our customers to address the greatest challenges of the 21st century.
We are looking for a Principal Electronics Engineer to join our New ProductDevelopment Team. Your focus will be the design and delivery of electronics solutions for our Materials Analysis products.

Location
We are based in High Wycombe (Cressex) and have hybrid working this typically looks like 3 days in-office and 2 days in your home office. We have a 37-hour working week with flex on starting times and 12 : 30 Friday finishes.

Role and responsibilities
* Take responsibility for technical solutions within specific electronics development projects working flexibly within a multidisciplinary team to deliver the product. Set up and participate in design reviews and keep thorough design and implementation records
* Provide go to expertise on electronics issues for the wider technology team. Mentor colleagues to develop their skills in using electronics tools and methodologies. Input to the architectural design process
* Design and execute tests to validate systems solutions at appropriate points throughout the product development lifecycle. Ensure new products are transferred adequately to manufacturing and customer support ensuring appropriate documentation is in place
* Provide support for existing products and ongoing support for new products as needed. Including managing engineering changes using official ECR / ECO / BP procedures in our PLM tool
* Plan estimate prioritise and manage own work and work closely with other team members to achieve integrated solutions consistent with project milestones
* Recommend new tools and techniques that will continue to improve product quality and the development process
* Maintain an understanding of the concepts techniques and requirements of your role. Keep up with trends in your field as well as your specific job area and maintain a good working knowledge of this organisation
* Operate at all times in accordance with health & safety at work legislation
* Travel to the USA (Santa Barbara) to work occasionally. Ideally this will be for a four week period to support onboarding and follow up sessions of 2 weeks or so on several occasions. The time periods are not fixed and will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate.
