Job summary This vacancy is offered on a permanent basis for 24 hours per week Work under supervision of qualified staff, utilising your knowledge and skills to deliver excellent patient care within an Outpatient setting To engage with all service users, patients and other teams within the Hospital setting. To develop your skills to meet the demands and diversity in the department. Outpatients is a small team and requires staff to be flexible to meet service delivery. Main duties of the job To Participate in the smooth running of clinics within OPD department on day-to-day basis Responsible for working with colleague, mangers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for patients and Staff To adhere to Trust policies and procedures and employment Law Communication effectively within the team, with patients and wider service users To maintain good, documented records, electronically or written, to ensure safety of information and storage as covered in Trust Polices To use equipment safety and appropriately once training completed. Job description Job responsibilities To participate effectively as a member of the team with clinical and clerical staff to support the smooth running of Outpatients to provide the highest standard of care, ensuring all aspects of the patients needs are met. The post holder will have the ability to act confidently in workplace situations, to influence other team members in a positive way and to use competence and initiative with a greater level of complex problem solving. To support the clinician with invasive procedures acting in a confident and effective way that maintains the patients well- being. This will include the organisation of equipment, documentation and specimen collection according to Trust Standard operating procedures. To report any change in the condition of patients to the clinician or nurse in charge. To instigate emergency situations and report promptly to qualified staff.To document and update patient information, both written and computerised, and any documentation of an immediate and essential nature in accordance with the Trusts data protection and confidentiality policy, as directed. To provide a safe and clean environment for patients and staff by ensuring that the equipment and furniture are cleaned and used correctly and that any faulty or damaged equipment is reported to senior staff and via Medical Engineering website. To use equipment safely and appropriately, following local instruction and assisting in the development of local standard operating procedures. To have an excellent understanding of National and Trust Policies, especially regarding health and safety, moving and handling, infection control, confidentiality; taking part in the development of future policies and local procedures. Willingness to be flexible and adaptable, to facilitate the provision of quality care. Ability to use their own initiative and within a team. To work autonomously in the absence of senior staff, making judgements regarding patient care based upon a high level of individual theoretical and practical knowledge Escort patients safely between different areas of the Department/Unit/ Hospital. Use clinical judgement to enable patients to access appropriate available services and resources. Supports patients during clinical activities, being able to demonstrate a high degree of empathy and acting as patient advocate. Responsible for working with colleagues and managers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for staff, patients and relatives. The post may entail exposure to emotional and/or distressed patients, relatives, visitors and staff. Risk assessments and/or action plans will be undertaken to minimise exposure to any risks and the post holder will be expected to participate in this process, making judgements about the risks posed within the clinical environment and acting accordingly. Be able to record accurately patient observations, making clinical decisions based upon analysing limited information. To ensure a high standard of accurate communication between all staff and patients including clinicians and allied health professionals. Communication of vital information between trained staff, doctors and patients. Supervision of new colleagues and students and sharing the responsibility for the development and supervision of these staff groups and training programs. Responsibility for reporting any adverse clinical incidents via DATIX Chaperoning of patients when required. If 1st on duty being responsible for opening and setting up the department. At end of the day, locking away equipment, notes, and securing the area. Reassurance of patients and relatives in difficult situations with tact and sensitivity.
